The Bride

The daughter of Alan and Jo Ann Chiet, Hali grew up in Port Jefferson, New York (a small town on Long Island). She had a great childhood and has wonderful memories shared with family and a close-knit group of friends. In the fall of 2003, Hali went off to James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, to study journalism and French; she had a great college experience and made wonderful new friends (three of which are in the bridal party)! After graduation, Hali moved back to New York, where she worked for a book publisher for two years. In May 2009, Hali decided it was time for a change, so she packed up her life and moved down to Alexandria, Virginia, where she met her future husband and the love of her life, NICK!

The Groom

The son of Jack and Karen Crane, Nick grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and lived there for 21 years before joining the Navy. His first duty station was overseas in Yokosuka, Japan, onboard the U.S.S. Blue Ridge. After three years, he was due for a transfer and was ready to go back to the states. He was selected to serve on the Chief of Naval Operations' personal staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He moved in to an apartment at Windsor at Arbors in Alexandria, Virginia, where he met his future wife and the love of his life, HALI!

How We Met...
(told by the bride-to-be)

Nick moved in to an apartment in Alexandria, Virginia, in February 2009; I moved in a few buildings down the hill just three months later. Was it fate? Perhaps...

Both workoutaholics, Nick and I often went to the tiny apartment gym at the exact same time every day. (Nick later admitted that he "slightly altered" his schedule so that he was sure to be there at the same time I was there each day.) I thought Nick was cute but figured he would never go for a gal like me...and I never had the guts to go up and talk to him... or so I thought...

Finally, one day I decided to join a local gym. The fitness manager at Washington Sports Club in Alexandria gave me three free week-long passes, and I thought to myself, "Hmmm, maybe I can offer one to that cute guy at the apartment gym...and suggest that we carpool...and then maybe we can start talking and getting to know one another!" (Genius idea, it turns out...)

After a week of driving to the gym together, Nick offered to take me out to dinner to "thank me for the free gym pass." On Friday, August 29, 2009, Nick took me out for our first date at Delia's, a local restaurant not far from where we lived (and the place Nick took me the night of our engagement; click on "The Proposal" page on this site to see the full story). After a delicious dinner filled with laughter and great conversation, Nick and I both knew that we each found someone special. We began spending more and more time together, and our relationship grew from that day forward, blossoming into a wonderful love story.
